Winning Lottery Number Patterns

This is a scientific, empirical study of the patterns in winning Pick 3 lottery numbers which you can replicate yourself:

In my study, I looked at over 1,900 Pick 3 draws from January 1, 2001 to the end of March 2006. I found that, if three digits win in one draw, the likelihood of one of those digits being repeated in the next draw is far greater than chance.

For example, if the winning number were 123 in last night's draw, the likelihood that one of the digits in tonight's draw will be either 1, 2, or 3 is greater than chance.

Because there are 10 possible digits to choose from, the likelihood by chance that 1, 2, or 3 will be one of the digits tonight is 3 out of 10, or 30%. However, the observed frequency turned out to be almost twice that number, or 59.06%.

The likelihood of two out of three of last night's digits being repeated tonight is still higher than chance, but much less likely than just one of them being repeated. I found that, compared to the 3% frequency expected by chance, the observed frequency was 11.96%.

The likelihood of all three of last night's digits being repeated tonight is .03% by chance, but the observed frequency was still higher than that, at .67%.

You can replicate these results for yourself by going to any of the several websites, such as Lotto Lore, which report lottery results, and counting up the number of digits repeated in your own, chosen sample of winning Pick 3 numbers.

What do these results imply? They do not give you enough information to win the draws, but they do demonstrate that some influence other than randomness is determining the results. A likely explanation would be that there is a relationship between astrological transits and the winning numbers: As long as one transit is prominent, a digit repeats itself and then, when another, more prominent transit comes into play, the digit changes.
